Be warned: HMRC ‘phishing’ emails on the rise

It’s been reported widely that the volume of fraudulent ‘phishing’ emails purporting to come from HMRC, has risen dramatically – by around 300% over the last year.  These emails can look genuine at first glance, but if you click on any links, you will find yourself on a cloned replica of the HMRC site, being asked for your credit or debit card details – and when it comes to fraud, you know that giving over that kind of information can only end badly.

HMRC reported that almost 24,000 of these fraudulent emails were reported in August alone.

All we can say is, be warned, and be careful.
